The Lincoln Boys Varsity Basketball team has a big challenge ahead in week three of the summer season. The Railsplitters join seven other central Iowa programs in the Urbandale Summer Shootout Saturday, June 16 at Urbandale High School.
The classic format of the tournament and the shot clock will make Saturday a bit unique to the June schedule for the Rails.
Lincoln opens with Norwalk at 9am in the North Gym. The Rails opened the Simpson Classic with the same opponent last weekend. Norwalk is a 3A power with Division I prospect Bowen Born leading the Warriors from the backcourt.
Game two’s 11:40am tip will feature either a rematch with Urbandale or Ames depending on the winners in round one. The Rails rode a 26-6 second half run to pick up a 47-41 victory over Urbandale on Saturday in Indianola. Ames has had Lincoln’s number over the past few years. Last winter Ames took the win on the southside by holding the Rails to only eight points in the second half.
Game three will be at either 2:20, 3:40 or 5:00 depending on the success the Rails find in the first two. 5pm’s championship tip will feature either Dowling Catholic, Southeast Polk, Valley or Winterset from the other side of the eight team bracket.
On Tuesday June 19, the Railsplitters are back at Urbandale High School for an 8pm tip with CIML Metro rival Des Moines North.
